The Steve Goodwin promoted FISTS of FURY show at York Hall on Saturday night produced pulsating action in a night of intense heat amongst a vociferous crowd.
“Nightmare” Nick Parpa won the first title of his career when he recorded a comprehensive 99-91 victory over Daniel Mendes to capture the Southern Area Cruiserweight title. Parpa won the fight with a higher work rate and accuracy. Mendes making the first defence of the title since securing the belt in March 2019 over Danny Couzens decided to use a lower work rate in order to tire Parpa out but this strategy did not work as Parpa continued with his onslaught round after round. It was only round 10 where Mendes came to life in a round he won but it was too little and too late.
In the other 10 rounder Curtis “The Cat” Felix defeated Connor “The Lion” Vian 97-93 in an enthralling encounter in an Eliminator for Ekow Essuman’s English Welterweight title. A worthy win for Felix who landed more often and more accurately but Vian never let Felix have his own way. Vian will come back and will drop a division to Super-Lightweight whilst Felix moves that step closer to a crack at a title.
On the undercard, the highlight was the “Italian Rocky” Angelo Bevilaqua’s (4-1) 58-56 win over the ultra-tough Kris Pilkington (2-1-1) in a bout that has fans excited as two warriors who never took a step back gave the crowd plenty of entertainment.
