WOODGATE SWITCHES TO GOODWIN
Tue 27th September 2016
Goodwin Boxing are pleased to announce the signing of top 20 ranked cruiserweight and Southern Area title challenger Dan Woodgate. 16 fights into his career, Woodgate has decided that making the move to Goodwin Boxing is the best step for his future and he has ambitions still to fulfill.
"I'm delighted to sign with Goodwin Boxing, it's the motivation I have needed" says Woodgate. "I'll look at taking good opportunities. Whether it's abroad or at home and they need a good opponent, I can take that. I'm in a position where one or two good wins will get me some exciting fights. If they're looking for an opponent in America or Germany or anywhere domestically who has a good record I'm up to that challenge."
Woodgate had previously indicated his in ring career may be over after an unsuccessful challenge for the Southern Area cruiserweight title against Wadi Camacho, but after stepping into a coaching capacity with a number of up and coming boxers his hunger has returned to make the most of his undoubted boxing abilities.
"I'd love the rematch with Wadi, I never did myself justice that night. My record doesn't tell the story of who I am. There are so many fights where I haven't been 100% and then when I am 100% I absolutely beat on my opponents. There's a million excuses, but people haven't seen the best of me yet and I'm hoping my body will produce it! I'm doing rounds on the pads now that I wouldn't have been able to do before I fought Wadi."
Citing that he is now fresher in his mind and revitalised in his ambitions, there are still plenty of options available for Woodgate, something recognised by the head of Goodwin Boxing, Steve Goodwin:
"We've known Dan and long time and he is someone we have always got on with. It's important when you manage a fighter that you understand each other and trust them. That's something we have straight away with Dan. He's an honest fighter, he still has plenty left to achieve in the sport and I believe that working together we can provide the opportunities to help him reach his potential."
A fresh and focussed Woodgate can be a handful for any cruiserweight and with the astute management of Goodwin Boxing in his corner, the ring return could see new heights reached for the 33 year old.
